Some Larger Paintings

Here are my most recent larger works done in the studio from field studies. The first painting is of some rock formations on Simons Hill in the the Mackenzie Basin look out towards Twizel. I have pushed the colour and light contrasts in this work to strengthen it.

"High View" Size is 30 inches by 28 inches in oil.

The next is a view from below the above painting, down on the basin floor. The Mackenzie Country has some amazing cloud formations and I tried to capture them with this work.

"Mackenzie Clouds" 15 inches by 30 inches in oil.

Next work a scene along state highway north of Kaikoura an area I love for its dramatic coastal views.

"Southerly Change" 20 inches by 40 inches in oil.

Another Mackenzie Country scene of the Twizel River in the hight of summer. There was a great swimming hole the kids loved to use during the hot summer holidays with very clean clear water.

"Favorite Swimming Hole"28 inches by 30 inches in oil.

Last painting is the Peacock Fountain in Christchurch from my previous studies there.

"Peacock Fountain" 20 inches by 24 inches in oil.

New Works

I had a commission to do a painting of this new house on the "Downs" behind Geraldine. It has the most amazing north-west views but the painting was to be of the house and so have included some of the gardens. Some of the Four Pecks Mt Range is also reflected in the main window. Size is 14 inches by 28 inches in oils.

Oamaru wharf painted on location with a weather change coming in of the coast. I was quite pleased with this one. 11 x 8 and half inches. Oil.

Old farm shed painted on location and just down the road from the house commission. Love these which are unfortunately disappearing. 16 x 12 Oil.

Feeding the ducks Avon River, Christchurch. I started this on location but had very limited time and finished in studio from photos. 16 x 12 Oil.

Caroline Bay Timaru. Painted on location with some touch ups at home. 11 x 8 and half. Oil.

Gum trees just down the road from where we live and painted on location. Very hot and dry weather as most of our summer has been this year. 16 x 12 Oil.

Our front garden on location of course. Lots of scope for many more paintings around our gardens. 16 x 12 Oil

The Peacock Fountain in Hagley Park Christchurch. Painted on location but very challenging with lots of people about and interest in what I was doing. Finished off at home. I meet photographer there who included me in some shots while he was there.  http://www.flickr.com/photos/peteprue/8436703687/
Painting size is 16 x12 Oil. I intend do a larger studio painting using this and photos as reference.
